PostgresML raises $4.7M to launch serverless AI application databases based on Postgres

PostgresML is an AI-powered extension for Postgres that simplifies application development by integrating machine learning tasks directly into the database. It allows for quick prototyping and deployment of AI applications, reduces costs, and improves performance.
PgCat, on the other hand, a custom Postgres load balancer, enables scaling and efficient multi-GPU inference workloads. The technology is MIT-licensed and already being used by companies like Instacart and OneSignal.
The company behind PostgresML has raised $4.7M in seed funding and is hiring engineers. Users can try PostgresML for free using their serverless cloud.

AWS Lambda Adopts Java 17

Amazon has introduced Corretto, a new implementation of Java, which includes patches from Amazon that prove useful for running Lambda functions. The patch includes security fixes, performance enhancements and improved garbage collection scheduling to prevent out-of-memory situations. Corretto also includes a new garbage collector that is low on footprint and well-suited for single processor machines.

Lambda now supports Java 11 in Corretto, which has features like Record that allow developers to define immutable classes with named properties and methods. This improves performance and simplifies code, making it easier to read and maintain.

So many bad takes — What is there to learn from the Prime Video microservices to monolith story   ✅

Prime Video has developed a serverless-based monitoring system using Step Function and Lambda to scale for high traffic and reduce costs and transition microservices, instead of a monolithic architecture. It’s based on the concept of "serverless first", starting by building something and then iterating to build and operate it effectively, by reusing code and using microservices.
